Panama commits to climate action through NDC implementation
25 January 2021 | CO2
Factor Ideas for change starts a collaboration with the World Bank to develop the Panama National Climate Action Plan (PNAC). Among the objectives of this project is the cross-sectoral dialogue between key local stakeholders as a means to improve and strengthen the capacity of the Government of Panama to plan and implement the country's Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC).
Factor's consulting team integrated by Kepa Solaun, Project Coordinator and Environmental Economics Expert; Inês Ferreira, Project Manager; Asier Sopelana, International Mitigation Expert; and Katharina Hess, International Adaptation Expert, will also propose recommendations for the long-term vision of the Plan (2050), which includes medium-term strategy/action lines.
Regarding the planning and implementation of the NDC, the team will plan specific measures for the short-term implementation of mitigation and adaptation commitments, including implementation arrangements and sources of finance, and also identify associated technological, and financial or capacity constraints.
Factor experts Dayana Vega, adaptation and M&E specialist; Carolina Trimiño, mitigation and environmental economics technician; and Susana González, climate finance expert, will also be part of the team.
The Nationally Determined Contributions are the centerpiece of the Paris Agreement and are the embodiment of countries' climate efforts and commitments in terms of reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to the effects of climate change, and contribute to the achievement of the long-term goals of the Agreement.
