Environmental economics is becoming more and more important because of the need to find answers to environmental problems through the tools and vision provided by economics. It is in charge not only of studying the ecological implications of economic development but, above all, of supplying instruments that make it possible to improve the environment and make environmental policy more effective.

Factor's CEO, Kepa Solaun, has published the book "Environmental Economics: A guide for practitioners", through the University of Navarra’s publishing house. This book deepens on the basic aspects of Environmental Economics. It has been designed in particular for readers without background knowledge of economics and following a predominantly practical approach. The text analyses some of the main questions and problems which arise from the interactions and trade-offs between the satisfaction of human needs and environmental protection. It also presents and proposes various tools and solutions to resolve certain environmental problems, from an economic and business perspective.

This book is aimed primarily at university students (both undergraduate and postgraduate), professionals who apply this discipline in their work (e.g. environmental and sustainability managers in companies, public administration staff or researchers), as well as other readers with an interest in environmental issues, energy or climate change.

In the academic field, Dr. Solaun has been an associate professor at the University of Navarra for eleven years, as well as professor of various postgraduate courses at the School of Industrial Organisation (EOI). Since March 2004, he is also founder and CEO of Factor Ideas for change, an international firm with presence in more than 9 countries and specialised in climate change, renewable energy, climate finance and sustainability. Currently, he is also President of the Spanish Association for Energy Economics.

He has several publications in prestigious journals such as Renewable Energy, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews, Energies, DYNA or Ekonomiaz, and has also written publications on energy and climate change for organisations such as the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit GmbH (GIZ), the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Inter-American Development Bank, the Spanish Office for Climate Change or the Complutense Institute of International Studies.
