Green Technology Selector: EBRDs free platform that connects the green technology market

25 February 2021 | CO2

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) promotes the Green Technology Selector (GTS) initiative, a completely free platform that connects producers and suppliers of green technologies with businesses and households.

GTS serves as a free marketing channel for suppliers and manufacturers who want to increase their visibility in the green technology market. It showcases a wide diversity of products, from architectural elements and household appliances that increase the energy efficiency of the home to machinery that improves the production of businesses. This platform is supported by international partners and donors such as the European Union (EU), the Green Climate Fund (GCF) and the Climate Investment Fund (CIF).

Currently, the GTS platform is being implemented in the Slovak Republic, but Spanish companies producing and distributing green technologies, which are interested in accessing the initiative, will have the opportunity to sell their technologies in other countries where they are required.

The future of green finance

The EBRD has also developed the Tech Selector mobile app, which changes the way the Bank provides climate finance to meet clients' needs.

Together, the app and the Green Technology Selector platform create a marketplace that facilitates access to green technologies and promotes cross-border trade between the economies of EBRD regions.

Manufacturers from all over the world can submit their products to the Green Technology Selector and local suppliers can register their products and locations. The consultancy Factor Ideas for change is responsible for analysing whether products and technologies meet the technical requirements in order to make them available to customers via the app or platform.

Companies and individuals can find green products and technologies, locate the nearest suppliers and manufacturers within minutes, and qualify for financing through the EBRD's financial partners, such as local banks, leasing companies and microfinance institutions.

Registration on this platform is completely free of charge and brings the following advantages:

  • Products, as well as the company's brand, will gain visibility and accessibility to potential customers in the countries where the EBRD operates.
  • Technologies that are successfully listed on the GTS are eligible for financing by financial institutions with which the EBRD works locally. This has already been implemented in several European countries (Poland, Romania, Croatia, etc.).
  • Factor Ideas for change, as lead consultant in this project, and its team of experts will provide all necessary assistance during registration.

By the end of 2019, the EBRD and its co-financing partners, signed more than €4.6 billion under the GEFF programme, which operates through more than 148 partner financial institutions in 27 countries. More than 190,000 clients, including small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), businesses and household customers, have benefited from GEFF financing. This has resulted in the avoidance of 8.6 million tonnes of CO2 equivalent per year.
